I’ve been a customer for years and all’s been okay. But yesterday the app refused to open. I can only see that it’s open by looking in Activity Monitor where it says “CyberGhost VPN (Not Responding)”. I work in tech so I’ve tried all the usual things e.g. restarting, reinstalling, and trying a different version. But the app is still broken. The worst part is that it turns the VPN on even though the app is hanging which creates issues with some of my sites e.g. Netflix. Is anyone else seeing this?
Found a solution in an arbitrary thread elsewhere:
Navigate to /Users/username/Library/Preferences and remove all files that start with “com.cyberghost”. Restart the app and it works.
I have to keep restarting my macbook to get it to work quite often. It’s annoying.
Hi
MacBook Air 2020 M1 MacOs 15.2
Had the same problem today, after installing f.lux, I don’t think it’s related
Deleting every cyber ghost related files in “Preferences” didn’t work
Unistalling Cyberghost with CleanMyMac and deleting my MacBook from the CyberGhost device list (on the website) did work though
It seems to be a recurrent problem : https://communities.apple.com/fr/thread/255814012?sortBy=rank
Last comment in french saying CyberGhost is aware of it
Bit of a shame I had to install CleanMyMac only for that, but I might keep it
Hope this can help !
I signed up last week and find the client keeps on freezing. Sometimes I need to force quit Finder or restart - its highly annoying and I doubt Ill make it past the 45 day trial period.
Which version of macOS are you running ?
My CyberGhost stopped working Just after the last update on May 19th. Running Monterey 12.6.6 on a 2016 Macbook Pro. I also have removed and cleaned all remaining items after dumping the program into the trash bin. Reloaded CyberGhost and the install seems to go okay but then the program starts it just bounces for a while and then goes unresponsive before I can even set it up in the network preferences.
Also customer for many years, never had issues until one month ago. I always leave my computer in slumber and when I woke up got a message it had restarted because of an issue. Computer was really slow, like 1990 telephone connection slow ! After a whole lot of searching and updating OS nothing changed. Until I checked my RAM use. And there it was. Cyberghost (not responding) using 64Gb of my available 16Gb. Took my some time to delete it because it was in use and I could not quit. Had to use forced stop right after rebooting. Now 2 weeks later I thought of reinstalling Cyberghost and immediately ran into the same issues. Deleted again. Still got 2 years subscription which seems useless now.
I’m running Big Sur, have exactly the same problem but unter /Users/user/Library/Preferences there are only com.apple.* files. Do you have a hint for me?
I fuckin love you bro. I found this a few months ago, and it worked. Yesterday this happened again and I couldn’t for the life of me remember what it was that I was supposed to delete and again, youre ONE comment helped. I wish others would upvote this so everyone could see it because this is the only thing across every site I’ve ever seen hat works for this problem. Thanks again!
That is awesome you found this solution. I just looked and the one and only file was 2GB! Deleted it. Started the program and it started right up and downloaded the new upate. After the update Ghostie is up and running great. Well as great as a nub like me can figure out.
did you ever fix it?
I just fixed it thank god!!! The creator of this post said /users/username/ (So I thought it meant the word username but I didn’t know it was “yourname” and It fixed it, so thank you Creator!!!
After a day of running it went non responsive again. Looked in the Library/Preferences and the file had grown from a few kb to 1.43 GB. com.cyberghostsrl.cyberghostmac.plist. Deleted the file and it works again. Strange things.
I had some problems with Cyberghost on Ventura too (it wouldn’t even start), but after downgrading to Monterey (12.6.6) it’s working again.
I upgraded to 13.4 but that didn’t work. Managed to fix it though. Check my most recent comment.
Oh, I wasn’t able to find a solution to get it to work with Ventura. Yours is interesting!
