Hi there, as I’m planning to return to HK from The U.K. I am much appreciated for your advices and recommendations regarding choosing a VPN that can be accessed in mainland China and HK. I need it for OpenAI, and other AIs. Cuz i have some very useful IOS and macOS shortcuts. I once had NordVPN from a friend, it was quite good in my opinion in terms of stability and speed. My budget would be HKD 30-40 monthly based. I did a bit of research within Reddit and found a spreadsheet regarding VPN providers. So I just would like to know if NordVPN is or maybe i should go for it. Thank you
have you considered protonvpn? it works in mainland and is free
I use Surfshark and had no issues in HK or China
ProtonVPN is good and stable, use it for OpenAI, no problem so far.
Do you have a home (or a relative’s home) in the UK with an active internet connection that you can VPN to (with the right router and setup?
Astril is the only reliable answer. Surfshark, NORD etc aren’t reliable in China
If you’re using your UK provider to roam the GFW shouldn’t be an issue.
Even Proton says that ProtonVPN coverage is patchy https://protonvpn.com/support/does-protonvpn-work-in-china never worked for me in Beijing. Astrill is the only way to go in mainland China these days.
I don’t know about this VPN you mentioned. I will definitely give it a try, thank you for your advice
I see thank you I’ll put it down on my list
Not really. That’s why i need a VPN. Thank you
Got it, I’ll put it on my list, thank you
I am not sure what is GFW…sorry
Ok no problem. Several of fellows UK expat in HK finds the commercial VPN service flaky at times, particularly watching UK tv streaming services at peak times.
The great firewall. When you roam you shouldn’t get limited by it.
