Has anyone successfully gotten adguard to work while using a vpn that’s not the adguard vpn?
I have PIA and trying to have it work with adguard. I tried the proxy method, but it doesn’t work.

Are you using the Adguard DNS server or the app? I have PIA as my VPN but don’t notice any issues by being connected via the Adguard DNS.
Only if you’re using it as a browser extension. As far as mobile iterations. The iOS Adguard will not allow system wide protection while using another VPN app. You can pay for AdguardDNS service and tell your VPN to use a different dns but most vpns rely on using certain dns servers to hide your requests.
Android Adguard functions similar to the iOS version in that it creates a fake vpn to use dns filtering. There are some not really useful ways to get around this but it’s different for each vpn provider doesnt allow you to use their app and involves downloading and installing unknown certificates. Using this way you’re not totally protected and can’t switch vpn servers ever without doing the whole process again. Plus the ca expire too.
The free version of AdguardDNS is limited. They really want you to pay that monthly subscription. I tried their vpn and it is really barebones so I switched.
socks 5 but it is very heavy and slow (tried many servers). unlike their application
I’ve tried with the app on countless occasions with multiple vps’s. Even been in touch with the respective support representatives. The only one I have had working is orbot
I had to deal with this problem exactly yesterday.
I was using Adguard DNS protection and everytime I tried to use a VPN (Surfshark, in my case) it would mess up the connection to the point I had to restart my iPad.
In any case, I solved it by changing the way the DNS protection is managed.
By default Adguard will filter fhe traffic by creating a VPN profile (a VPN icon will always be visible on the top right next to the wi-fi icon).
If you go to System Settings>General>VPN & Device management>DNS and select Adguard instead of Automatic, the system itself will process the filtering without the app needing to create a custom VPN profile.
Once i changed that, my personal VPN started working again without issues.
By the way, I think either the app or something in the system changed fairly recently, because this has never been an issue, for me.
I even created a shortcut that would toggle between VPN profiles as needed, and it never had problems.
At least, up until a couple of days ago (i don’t use a VPN very ofter, only for circumventing the occasional geo-barrier).
Anyway, hope this helps.
You can’t be connected to adguard dns at the same time as a vpn on ios. You must disable adguard dns blocking forst then connect to your vpn. Your vpn has encryted dns anyway.
I’m using the app, not the dns servers
Yeah.
I need to get a rootable phone and go that route to have both working
Good thing i don’t use crapple
Try changing your DNS on your router or mobile to dns.adguard-dns.com.
It will still block ads but your VPN will work.
Well good luck researching that android work around. It’s not worth the trouble though.
No, Adguard does that
I am at work, using their wifi, and need vpn to bypass streaming sites ban. Can’t change dns. Adguard has a guide, but after i set it up, i don’t know how to make it work.
Can’t you just activate PIA’s MACE blocker and forget about Adguard? You will need to install PIA from an APK file… https://installers.privateinternetaccess.com/download/pia-android-4.0.13-10676.apk
Assuming you’re using a phone (next reply suggested an APK which you said works), you can change your DNS even if you’re using work WiFi.
Didn’t know mace was an option. I enabled it and it looks like it’s working
Goodo! Just don’t tell the boss.
