Using Google One VPN disconnects your Sonos network

Before activating Google One VPN on my Pixel 8 I did an inquiry with Google. I wanted to make sure that Google One VPN would not interfere with any of my subscribed applications or web-based services. I had noticed that locally edited Google files would not sync with my Google Drive when NordVPN was connected and active. Google One assured me that their VPN is not meddling with my data stream.
Today I found out that this is a lie. After experiencing repeated trouble with connecting the Sonos app (G2) on my android phone with the Sonos network and devices while all devices are on the same Wifi network, I contacted Sonos support. After trying all the obvious remedies and looking into my phone (by GoAssist) they were baffled to find that it really didn’t work. Then they noticed in the QuickSettings that Google One VPN was active. Through Fing I could confirm that the data stream was deviated, not through the IP of my ISP but through an unknown IP from Google. Obviously this destroyed the communication between the app on my phone and my account on the Sonos server. Evidence: as soon as and for the time that Google One VPN is paused, my problem was over.
I know that Google and Sonos have a troubled relationship, but I don’t need this shit and therefore toggled the ‘Use VPN’ off in the Google One app.

P.S. LockingSwitch doesn’t know what a question mark is.

This is actually on Sonos, it varies from app to app to allow VPNs or not, also you can set apps that can bypass the Google VPN in settings.

This is like connecting to your router local IP through a VPN, obviously won’t work because your traffic is encrypted and tunnelled through a different network

You’re connecting to a VPN, or course this will fuck with connecting to local devices. Do you even know how a VPN works?

The Google One app allows you exclude certain apps from the VPN. You can also have Google VPN disable itself on any specified WiFi network. You can access these settings in the Google One app…Google One > VPN > Manage VPN.

You should see settings to Pause VPN on selected networks and Exclude selected apps

You’re asking for a friend, I assume?

Ah, automatic pause when connected to my home network at home… of course. Thanks, that was useful and helpful.

(I didn’t opt for excluding the Sonos app, as I’ll never have to access a music library other than my own local one)

What? I’m not asking anything?
